A fridge card plus four wallet cards. Write your word, cut them out, and give one to everyone you love. Then pass it on to another family.
Why each habit matters
- Multi-factor authentication stops most account takeovers, because a stolen password alone isn't enough. Start with email, since it resets everything else.
- A safe word beats a voice clone: AI can copy how someone sounds, not a word only your family or team knows.
- Calling back on a known number defeats deepfake and fake-invoice fraud. Never use the number in the message.
- Weekly backups turn ransomware from a disaster into an inconvenience. Keep one copy offline or in the cloud.
- A password manager gives every account a unique password and won't autofill on a fake site, a quiet warning sign of phishing.
- Pausing is the whole game. AI scams depend on urgency; ten seconds of doubt breaks the spell.
- Reviewing your insurance tells you whether a loss would be covered. Ask about social-engineering and funds-transfer fraud by name. See cyber insurance for AI scams.

Frequently asked questions
Is the AI Scam Readiness Checklist really free?
Yes. There's no sign-up and nothing to buy. Use it, print it and share it.
Which step should I do first?
Turn on multi-factor authentication for your email, bank and payment apps. It protects almost everything else.
Is the checklist for families or businesses?
Both. Families can use the safe word and call-back habits at home; businesses can turn them into written rules for whoever handles payments.
